Description
Choose from drop-down menus to select your mushroom species; dowels, sometimes called plug spawn, are used to inoculate logs.
This product must be used on Hardwood logs like Oak, Eucalyptus, Beech, Chestnut, Wattle, Willow, Maple, Hickory, etc.
Do not use anti-rot varieties or softwood like pine or bottlebrush(Callestemon).
The logs must be at least 10-15 cm in diameter and about 60cm long for best yields. We always use freshly chopped wood, not old wood, to ensure competing organisms do not get in.
We sell the right size of dowel inoculation drill bit in our store for these, or buy our dowel inoculation kit.
Logs take 6 months to 1 year to colonize, depending on the species, and will fruit when the season is right. Keep your logs consistently moist. Once they start fruiting, they will produce for 3.5 to 5 years.
These dowels have grooves in them, giving them a perfect spot for the mycelium to hide when inserted in the logs, keeping them safe from friction or rubbing on insertion.
We recommend 20 dowels for a 60cm log with 18cm diameter as a minimum.
Size of dowel 8*25mm
