Description
Two sizes are available: 700g and 3kg.
Our pre-sterilized, ready-to-use Master Mix Mushroom Substrate is ideal for mushroom cultivation. Designed specifically for Wood-loving mushrooms, this substrate is hydrated to field capacity, ensuring optimal moisture content for mushroom growth. It is ideal for all woodloving mushroom species that like wood.
This substrate is a balanced blend of 50% hardwood sawdust and 50% Lupin pellets. Lupin pellets are rich in fermentable fiber and nitrogen, essential for boosting mushroom growth. However, as the mixture contains only half wood, the later stages of mushroom growth might not be as prolific as the initial burst. This mix is excellent for various mushrooms but is not the best choice for species like Shiitake and Turkey Tail, which thrive in environments with more wood. The Masterโs Mix is famous in mushroom farms and starter kits because it helps achieve a quick and impressive first harvest. It is incredibly motivating for beginners in mushroom cultivation and offers a faster turnaround for mushroom farmers.
The Master’s Mix Mushroom Substrate also comes with Woodchips. When mycelium comes in contact with woodchips while growing, they become really Vigorousโresulting in thicker and faster colonisation. For more information about Mycelium, check out Our Grain Spawn.
If you are working with our Grain spawn and do not want to use up all the spawn in one go,ย inoculated a grain bag with agar or inoculated a substrate bag with grain spawn for which you had to cut open the bag but have no way to seal the bag again consider to have our Largeย Sealing Bag Clips.
Source and Quality of Sawdust and Lupin Pellets
We source our Sawdust directly from Tasmania or NSW and are made of 100% Tasmanian Oak, and pellets are made from Australian hardwood. Our Lupin pellets are non-GMO and Australian-grown Rootlab branded.
Our lupin based substrate is what we grow Rootlab’s mushroom on.We get 5-10% better yield than a soy based Masters mix.
Substrate bags should be used within 14 days of arrival to prevent them drying out or risking contamination. Always open the bag carefully, inside a still air box or in front of a flow hood, as improper opening increases the risk of contamination.
If contamination does appear, it can be hard to know whether it originated from Rootlab, shipping, or your own environment. For this reason we recommend holding the bag for at least 5 days after arrival and doing a smell and visual check before inoculating, while still staying within the 14 day window so the bag doesn’t dry out.
Rootlab sends the bag taped in a box, upon receiving, remove the tape carefully and keep the bag upright.
Once You have inoculated the bag with grain spawn, colonisation should take place somewhere with good airflow, but out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat or cold source.
