Description

Black Morel (Morchella angusticeps) Gourmet Mushroom. Top fruiting. Fruiting temp: 12°-21°C

Rootlab is currently transitioning from Millet to Rye, so some spawn may be delivered on organic Rye instead of the advertised Millet.

Did you know that we sell Mushroom culture in form of Liquid culture, Log plug dowel spawn, Agar plate, Mushroom grain spawn, Sawdust Substrate and as Mushroom Growing Kits?.

Grain-spawn mycelium, Gourmet and medicinal strains are available fully colonised for mushroom cultivation, made with excellent commercial-quality culture.
Ready-to-go bags! Cut your bag open, add to your pre-sterilised or pasteurised substrate or sterilised grains and allow it to colonise completely.
GENERAL GRAIN SPAWN INFORMATION-
  • Fully colonised and contaminant-free
  • 100% reputable Millet or Organic Rye
  • Calcium Carbonate added for supplementation
  • Gypsum is added to prevent grains from clumping together
  • It comes with a bit of Sawdust/ Manure or Straw to expose mycelium to its final substrate and reduce the lag period.
  • Grains are autoclaved and prepared at field capacity
Method to use:-
  • Add at least 5-20% grain spawn in your substrate. The amount of spawn you add depends on whether your substrate is sterilised or pasteurised, your experience level, and the type of mycelium used(Reishi and Oysters require less spawn than shiitake, Almond or Portobello).
  • The grains can also be transferred to more Sterilised Grain bags and expanded further.
  • Suppose you are using pasteurised substrate instead of the sterilised substrate. In that case, a higher grain spawn rate may lead to fewer chances of contamination, as higher grain spawning leads to faster colonisation.
Bags are assured 100% contaminant-free due to their sterilisation process of 2h at 15psi in a commercial autoclave. Moreover, we inoculate and heat-seal our bags before a 0.3-micron laminar flow hood. These strains are vigorous and fast-growing, reducing the chances of contamination once the substrate is added.

Due to the specific conditions under which they thrive, Morel mushroom cultivation is typically best adapted to outdoor environments. Although there have been isolated instances of successful indoor cultivation, this required nearly ideal environmental replication using expensive equipment; companies that discovered it have patented the indoor cultivation process.

To cultivate Morels successfully, you must first prepare the soil. The ideal soil should be loamy and alkaline, enriched with wood particles and ash. Morels in nature typically flourish following forest fires, with an optimal pH level between 9 and 10.
Sawdust spawn or grain spawn are typically used to spread the mycelium outdoors. However, grain spawns are typically not recommended for outdoor distribution because birds and insects may reach them before the mycelium can propagate. Sawdust spawn proves to be the best medium for spreading mycelium.

Unpredictability in Morel cultivation is a factor that must be considered. In general, deciduous trees indicate a favourable environment as morel mushrooms form symbiotic relationships with these trees. We recommend preparing a shady area for your Morel crop, considering that it may take between one and two years for the mycelium network to become fully known and established. Once established, you can anticipate annual production increases. Set up your morel outdoor space in spring or autumn for the best chance of success. Important to remember is to keep your patch damp throughout the year.
YouTube contains many tutorials that could serve as a resource for more detailed instructions.
Lastly, when collecting Morels, please correctly identify them, as false Morels can occasionally grow in the same environment. True Morels are hollow, whereas false Morels are not; this is a distinguishing feature.
