Description
The kit described is an XL-size monotub designed for professional or commercial use in mushroom cultivation. It includes several components:
- 1 Black Base: The foundation of the tub where the substrate and spawn are placed.
- 1 Bin Liner: This washable and reusable bin liner can line the tub, preventing side-pinning and making cleanup easier.
- 1 Colonisation Lid: Used during the initial colonisation phase to cover the substrate.
- 1 Fruiting Lid: This lid is available in stackable or tapered variations. The tapered lid helps manage moisture by directing condensation forming on the top of the lid to the sides, while the stackable lid allows for stacking multiple tubs. If you are buying multiple tubs, it’s 100% recommended to get stackable tubs.
- After complete colonisation, the colonisation lid is replaced by one of these fruiting lids. When swapping the colonisation lid with one of the fruiting lids, you can add a casing layer to your fully colonised tub. If you decide to use our casing, you will need a 2 kg casing layer for the tub.
- 8 Air Filters: These are attached to the fruiting lids to facilitate air exchange while keeping contaminants out.
If you’re looking for a complete growing solution, including both the monotub and substrate, we recommend checking out our Max Yield Bins Mushroom Growing Kit with Substrate. This comprehensive option is ideal for those who want a ready-to-use setup to optimise their growing process.
What do you not get with this kit?
-Painter tape/duct tape/micropore tape
–Grain bag, substrate and casing.
Dimensions
Black base with colonisation Lid: L x W X H : 52cm : 39 cm: 19 cm
Black base with Stackable Lid: L x W X H : 52cm : 39 cm: 30 cm
Black base with tapered Lid: L x W X H : 52cm : 39 cm: 32 cm
This monotub has a capacity of 10 kg, accommodating 2 kg of spawn and 6 kg of substrate and optionally 2 kg of casing. It is not recommended for beginners due to its large size and potential contamination loss. The tub’s robust construction is highlighted, making it durable but expensive to ship. The product is made in Canada and sold by Rootlab, the official reseller of Max Yield Bins.
Instruction-
1)Preparation
Insert the liner in the black base, add your substrate, and then the colonised mushroom spawn in layers, finishing with a substrate layer on top. It would be best to use 2 kg of spawn and 6 kg of substrate(1:3 ratio)
2) Colonisation:
Close the base with a flat coloniser lid and cover the holes in the black base with painter’s or duct tape on all sides. Leave for 2 weeks. Painter’s tape(masking tape) is recommended as it does not leave residue.
3)Fruiting stage:
Once the mycelium has fully colonised in the tub, apply a 2 Kg casing layer on top of the substrate (optional) and change to a fruiting lid.
Replace the painter’s tape or duct tape with micropore tape.
If you did not use a casing layer, you must maintain surface conditions of very fine, tiny water droplets with our heavy-duty atomiser spray. Mist as frequently as required so that the tiny droplets of water always stay on top of the surface; stop misting when the mushroom starts to come(pinset).
The tub facilitates the growth of any top-fruiting mushroom. The kind of substrate you need would differ. For example, to grow oysters, Reishi, or Shiitakes, you would need Hardwood sawdust and bran substrate. To grow portobello/white button/Almond agaricus mushrooms and any dung-loving mushrooms, you need our manure substrate. Some mushroom types may require Coco and vermiculite substrate.
Some mushrooms can’t be grown in a tub like Wine cap/White button unless, somehow, you introduce microbial activity as they need microbes in compost or casing to start fruiting. We don’t recommend growing wine caps in these tubs at all.
