Stainless Steel Plant tissue culture Lab Forceps | Curved & Straight Tips | 15cm

Price range: $15.00 through $25.00 inc. GST

Description

Precision stainless steel forceps designed for plant tissue culture, micpropropagation, and sterile lab work. This set includes both straight-tip and curved-tip forceps, giving you the right tool for handling delicate explants, transferring cultures, and working inside jars, tubes, and culture vessels.
Made from high-grade stainless steel, these forceps resist corrosion and withstand repeated autoclaving and flame sterilisation, making them ideal for maintaining aseptic technique in the lab. The fine serrated tips provide a secure, non-slip grip on small and fragile plant material, so explants and nodal segments stay exactly where you place them. The ridged central grip is engineered to be non-slip even when handling with gloved or damp hands, giving you steady control during intricate transfers.

Key Features:
Non-slip serrated tips hold delicate explants, meristems, and nodal segments securely without crushing or dropping them.
Non-slip ridged thumb grip gives comfortable, precise control during long sessions, even with gloved or wet hands.
High-grade stainless steel construction resists rust and corrosion through repeated sterilisation cycles.
Fully autoclavable and flame sterilisable, so you can maintain strict aseptic technique.
Straight and curved tips included, covering both open bench work and reaching into deep or narrow culture vessels.
Balanced weight and length for reduced hand fatigue during extended propagation work.

Usage:
These forceps are used throughout the plant tissue culture workflow. Use the straight-tip forceps for general transfers, picking up explants, and positioning material on fresh media. Use the curved-tip forceps to reach into jars, test tubes, and deep vessels where a straight tool would be awkward. During subculturing, they let you lift and move rooted plantlets, callus, and shoot clumps between vessels with minimal tissue damage. They are equally suited to transferring seeds, dissecting plant material, and placing cultures onto agar in a laminar flow hood.

Use Cases
Plant tissue culture and micropropagation
Transferring explants, meristems, and nodal segments onto media
Subculturing plantlets, callus, and shoot clusters
Mycology and mushroom culture work, including agar transfers and clean spawn handling
Microbiology and general sterile bench work
Seed handling, dissection, and specimen positioning

How to Sanitise and Sterilise
For plant tissue culture you need proper sterilisation, not just cleaning, so nothing contaminates your cultures. Common methods:
Autoclaving. Wrap the forceps in autoclave-safe pouches or foil and autoclave at 121 degrees Celsius and 15 psi for 15 to 20 minutes. This is the most reliable method for full sterilisation and suits batch preparation before a work session.

Flame sterilisation (bead steriliser or alcohol and flame). Inside a laminar flow hood, dip the tips in 70 to 100 percent ethanol, then pass briefly through a flame to burn off the alcohol. Allow the forceps to cool before touching plant tissue, as hot metal will damage explants. This is the standard method for sterilising between transfers during a session. A glass bead steriliser is a safer alternative to an open flame and heats the tips to around 250 to 300 degrees Celsius in seconds.

Chemical sterilisation. For a quick surface clean, wipe or soak in 70 percent ethanol or HOCL. This is useful for general bench hygiene but is less thorough than heat sterilisation for critical aseptic work.
After each session, wash off any media or plant residue with warm water and mild detergent, dry thoroughly to prevent water spots and corrosion, and store in a clean, dry place. Re-sterilise before the next use.
