Description
Scientific Name: Flammulina velutipes
What’s Inside
Everything you need is included — just spray water and follow the simple instructions.
Our substrate is a special Master’s Mix: a blend of sawdust and lupin hulls, inoculated with 300g of millet grain spawn to give your mushrooms the best possible start.
Microplastic Free
Soy Allergen Free
Gluten Free
Our bags: We use Unicorn grow bags, made in the USA. Unicorn is the only grow bag in the world independently tested by Eurofins (a third party lab in Europe) and certified to EN 1186 and USFDA 1520 standards for plastic migration into substrate. Tested at 121°C for 3.5 hours. No other PP or PE bag manufacturer has achieved this food safety standard.
Golden Enoki (Flammulina velutipes)
Golden Enoki mushrooms are famous for their long, thin stems and small caps in cultivated form — in nature, they look quite different (shorter, brownish). Cultivation often uses hardwood sawdust supplemented with bran or other nutrition (e.g. 78 % hardwood + 20 % wheat bran + minor sugar / gypsum). To get the classic “needle” stems, high CO₂ and low light are used during fruiting induction. Golden Enoki contains dietary fiber, polysaccharides, antioxidants, and has been studied for hypolipidemic effects. We keep everything simple: fresh, made-to-order bag, no long cold storage, etc.—we pass savings to you. We call these kits ‘almost ready to fruit’.
Growing Conditions
Humidity: Keep very high humidity (90–95 %+) during pinning and fruiting to prevent drying of thin stems.
Light: Low light (100–200 lux) is ideal to keep stems long and caps small. Minimal but consistent diffused light helps cap formation.
Air: Reduced fresh air exchange (higher CO₂) helps elongate stems in enoki; gentle airflow is needed after pins form to avoid CO₂ poisoning.
Storage: Unopened kits can be stored cool and dark for a short time, but prolonged storage reduces vigor of fruiting.
Common Mistakes to avoid
Too warm during fruiting: Even though incubation is warm, fruiting at higher temps will shorten stems or abort pins.
Low humidity: Thin stems dry quickly — insufficient humidity causes them to shrivel or abort. Too much fresh air too early: Early exposure to airflow reduces stem elongation (caps open prematurely) — manage CO₂ until pins form.
What if pins form inside the bag?
Don’t worry. Ignore the internal pins. Gently fold the top of the bag to push out excess air, cut a small X in the side of the bag where you want the mushrooms to grow, and begin misting that spot daily. The internal pins will be naturally aborted as they don’t have space to grow.
All mushrooms produce spores as part of their natural growth cycle. Some people may be sensitive or allergic to spores, so be mindful of where you grow them. Harvesting earlier — as the caps begin to flatten — will help you avoid heavy sporulation.

Checkout out our fine Misting Spray Bottle to produce tiny droplets and keep humidity high. The size of droplets formed can easily be evaporated , this constant evaporation signals mycelium to pin.
