Description
Mycrobox polypropylene containers are ideal for plant tissue culture and are autoclavable. They are not supplied sterile.
Choose your filter: green, red or white
Each Mycrobox lid has a built-in air filter, and you can choose from three filter types. All three come in the same pack quantities. The filter colour sets how much gas exchange happens in the container:
#10 White filter (less gas exchange): approx. 9.87 GE/day
#30 Red filter (more gas exchange): approx. 15.58 GE/day
#40 Green filter (most gas exchange): approx. 81.35 GE/day
What does GE/day mean?
GE/day stands for Gas Exchanges per day. It tells you how many times the gas inside a vessel is fully replaced over 24 hours. For example, the green filter’s rating of 81.35 GE/day means the air inside turns over about 81 times a day. The white filter’s rating of 9.87 GE/day means it turns over just under 10 times a day.
The rate depends on the filter type, the filter length and the volume of gas in the container. These figures were measured with empty vessels under standard conditions. Use them as a guide only, because results will vary with your plants and growing conditions.
Which filter should I choose?
White: best if you want to hold moisture and keep media from drying out, or if your cultures will stay in the vessel for a long time.
Red: a middle option that gives moderate airflow.
Green: best for cultures that need plenty of airflow, such as plantlets you’re hardening off before acclimatisation.
More gas exchange means your media can dry out faster. Think about your microclimate, how long the plants will stay in the vessel and how much airflow they need, and try different filters to find the right balance.
Important notes
Keep the filter zones clear of labels or anything else that could block them.
You can cut down gas exchange by partly covering a filter. For example, covering the green filter halfway should bring it down from around 80 to about 40 GE/day.
Avoid wetting the filters. If a filter does get wet, let it air dry.
Before reusing the lids, wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Don’t soak them, and let them dry completely.
Dimensions
Each Mycrobox measures 7 x 7 x 11 cm (L x W x H).
Sterile tubs
If you’re after sterile tubs, let us know the quantity you need. Sterile cups can’t be stacked and take up a lot of room in a carton, so shipping them works out expensive.
